Chaos in your Christmas Tree

[img_assist|nid=215|title=It's laughing at you.|desc=|link=node|align=right|width=141|height=250]It occurs to me this morning that the Christmas Tree is one of the best examples of humanities own madness. For all it's hulliballoo about the reign of law and order, we continue this bizarre tradition. When you ask people "Do trees belong in the home?" most people would respond, "Of course not, don't be silly, man! Have some sense about you!" Yet, to this day we expend a...

deni-chan

deni-chan was the deninet web server for almost two years. I built her from an old from a motherboard, CPU, and memory I bought from a friend, and some spare parts I had lying around my apartment. Of course, I needed to buy one component: A case. I admit that I went out of my way to find something a little flashy. I wanted a sidepanel window, some internal lighting, a temperature guage. I found just the thing for a really good price at a local Microcenter. When I pulled the case out of the box, it...

Osaka

Osaka was interesting because she had a relatively high-end case -- an Antec Aria. While it had a small and well engineered form factor, it allowed for a ATX-mini motherboard and standard components. The problem with the case is that I stuffed three hard drives into the poor thing and it developed a ventilation problem. I still have the case, hopefully I'll use her again in the future. The inside of Osaka always impressed me. The engineering of the Antec Aria case was impressive. All the corners were...

You can't keep a crazy Goddess down

Discordia (the comic, not the Goddess) is back, on a new server and a new content manager, and with a new strip! The archive is also up and running, so it may be a good idea to review the story before new strips come in.Go read at...

A Different Miki

One thing that I've been compelled to do after receiving my copy of Rebuild an Omnipresence in [the] Wired is to play around with my art style. While I've been becoming more technically proficient with my artwork, the manner in which I draw my characters hasn't changed for a while.I decided that I wanted to toy around with a more natural style and imitate my favorite mangaka. After several attempts, I came up with the image you see to the right. The rendering of Miki is certain different from any I have...

Rebuild an Omnipresence in [the] Wired

While I had watched anime prior to 1999, no particular series grabbed me so completely as Serial Experiments Lain. It was Christmas vacation, and my friend Grant (from bakacafe) and I were wondering through a Suncoast Motion Picture Company store. Today the chain is all but gone, but at the time, it was the only place in Minnesota where you could get the newest anime. At this point, we knew only the few shows provided to us by the Sci-Fi channel's Saturday Anime. The original film version of Ghost in the...

DiscordiaComic.com to make a return?

It seems that the webcomic Discordia is prepping for a return to publication. The comic has been silent for months, the last post being a guest strip from Tselsebar of The Wotch: Cheer!. While I enjoyed the comic during it's active months last year, I was saddened to see it go cold.Discordia (the comic, not the religion), ranks among other unwitting transformation comics such as Abstract Gender, Sparkling Generation Valkyrie Yuuki, and the mighty Misfile by Chris Hazelton. The story centers around...

Draft 4?

I've been thinking of reviving a plot element in Novella that I did away with a year ago.Currently Novella is in what's called "Draft 3". Drafts enumerate major changes in a story's plotline. The first draft was a more fantasy oriented story involving a pen that could control fate. It fell into the hands of a college age androgene, Novella. Although I toyed with the idea for quite some time, it never got very far. Eventually I recycled the character into another story more fitting...

deninet5.1 and Starlights Beta

One thing I've been working on for the site, in addition to the new Starlights (or Akisa Web) theme is a general upgrade. A new core version of drupal had come out, and several modules had updated since I first started to use Drupal. I took this as an opportunity to update the whole lot. Now deninet is running Drupal 4.7.4. Several modules were updated, and a few new ones were added:Capcha - Was installed but never enabled. Updated. im - Never enabled. Removed.logintoboggan - Was enabled, but never...

Transgender Day of Rememberence 2006

You are not forgotten. This year I actually managed to post one before the 20th. I spent the last three days putting this together. It's perhaps the most complicated layout I've yet done. It required three separate drawing layers with digital compositing. Even then the coloring was tricky given the complexity of the piece and the interplay of the reflected layer. The concept is that you're looking through Novella's eyes. In the glass of the frame is her reflection post Transition. She's looking at a...
